The New Media Consortium (NMC) is an international
consortium of nearly 250 learning-focused organizations dedicated to the
exploration and use of new media and new technologies. They are organizing
two activities in Second Life, to celebrate the International Day for
Sharing Life Stories! The first one is the exhibition of life stories produced by several of
the Centers in Digital Storytelling around the world. The purpose is to
illustrate for 3 hours the diversity of geographic areas where communities
are being empowered through DS work. A ‘in-world’ hawker leading will
invite visitors to these storycircles. She/he will also manage any
parallel conversation; complement the on-screen information and log the
chat history occurring in Second Life during the screening. The event will
be announced via SLED (SL Educators list) and NMCTAB (New Media Consortium
Techn. Advisory Board). What? : Video screening The other activity they’re organizing is a Conference on storytelling
in virtual environments. Six speakers will do short presentations in
Second Life (SL), in some cases illustrated by digital stories shown on a
screen in SL. The conference will take place in front of a virtual
audience and will have an in-world moderator. What? Conference +info: johnson@nmc.org or anaventura@mail.utexas.edu
