Sharing Stories:

International Day Activity Kits

Facilitator and storyteller John O’Neill, Paloma McGregor of Urban Bush Women, Maria Martinez of The Institute for Community Research, and other conference participants in a story circle.

Since announcing the International Day event, hundreds of people have written us to ask about what sorts of activities they should consider for their local community. In response, we have designed a series of activities that can be adapted to all kinds of environments.

We hope that community centers, after-school programs, classrooms, and informal groups of friends can adapt the activities to their specific needs of find inspiration in the stories that emerge. Please organize an afternoon or evening of sharing among your community group, family or friends others to do the same.

Stories come from memory, but they also come from finding a willing audience to listen. In planning activities for your community, how well you create an environment where people really stop and listen to each other, is how well your stories will blossom.

We invite you to share your experience in story gathering on the International Day blog.
