The Center for Digital Storytelling

"Telling Stories & Music" - a group that puts on live
performances of music and spoken word essays around specific themes. This

Ohio State University is holding three events to celebrate the
International Day for Sharing Life Stories! The first one is a 1-hour
screening of digital stories. The second activity planned is a 1-hour
15minute outdoor live storytelling performance of a variety of short
pieces. Finally, they will have a faculty panel discussion about the role
of storytelling in higher education.
On May 17, 2008 students, parents, teachers, administrators and local
public officials will gather at the Ocean Beach Historical Society on Fire
Island to honor senior members of their community, many of whom took part
in an initiative known as the “Student Elder Project.” Through their
participation, these seniors acknowledged the importance of preserving
their local history. This evening will showcase all of the student’s
iMovies, produced to document the lives of project participants. This
opening will also serve as a platform for each student to present a DVD

Partnering with the Two Rivers Story Spinners, The State Historical
Society of Iowa leads the effort to combine history and the arts,
individuals and communities. A display about The Big Read project
highlights the importance of experiencing literature. People will be
encouraged to share stories in small group settings, or by presenting to
the whole group during the open microphone session. Experienced
storytellers and personal historians will be on hand to offer assistance.
This activity will take place at the Des Moines Area Community, from 7 pm

Citizens in Bloomington will celebrate life story in multiple ways and
places! Life story photo exhibits (Picturing my World, Memory of the
Square, and Third Street Park); a student-led Cold War Memories story
booth; story circles of all kinds in several venues; international
telephone calls from Bloomington to home; and also a mapmaking project to
tell the story of their public housing community. The events will take

The Center for Digital Storytelling from Washington DC is planning a
public event with SpeakEasyDC and the Served Project for the International
Day for Sharing Life Stories. The event, called Pulling
a 180: Stories about Change, transformation and New Beginnings
will feature a musical performance by Lilo Gonzales, SpeakeasyDC community
storytellers, and screened stories by teenage filmmakers from the Served
Project.
A storysharing gathering
will occur at Sun City McDonald Ranch in Henderson, NV. Members of the
current LifeCatching Writing Group will share stories from their writings
and invite others to participate. Group leader and author, Barbara Tabach
will provide participants with tools to get started saving their personal

As part of the celebration for the International Day for Sharing Life
Stories, the organization will organize three story circles. Two of them
will gather students for sharing life stories inspired by videos of story
circles in Israel and Palestine. The other story circle will be the
monthly meeting of the 9-year-old sustained San Francisco Dialogue of
Muslim, Christian and Jewish women and men. What?

Resource Center for Family Centered Practice an Permanecy Planning to hear
from storytellers in the child welfare field; young people, workers and

stories, especially stories of immigration to or migration within the
United States. Share stories
using whatever format you choose: narrative, song, visual display, etc.

The Armory joins with CDS
in an event that will feature digital stories created in on-site
workshops, including artist/author Riua Akinshegun and documentary
filmmaker Kathy Huang's Miss Chinatown, USA; CDS Los Angeles presents an
evening of story performance, digital storytelling screenings, narrative
documentary and story swapping.
