  • Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research in Sussex Celebrates the International Day for Sharing Life Stories

The Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research at the University of Sussex, will be hosting a variety of life history displays and interactive exhibits on campus, in the vicinity of Library Square,  on Friday 16th May,  from 12 noon to 2pm.  Making use of a variety of resources such as film, photographs, letters, diaries and  life story interviews, there will be many examples of life history work for visitors to explore and discuss with the presenters. The celebration will include material from the university's renowned Mass Observation Archive, demonstrations from some recent and ongoing life history projects,  a Tibetan prayer flag which visitors will be encouraged to add to, a conch shell for whispering secret stories into and a small caravan housing an interview booth where memories of seaside holidays will be recorded. Weather permitting, we hope to attract many passers-by, along with those with an existing interest in life stories and life history research.

  • Paul Thompson´s retirement conference at the Department of Sociology of the University of Essex

The Emeritus Professor Paul Thompson is organizing his retirement conference called “Community, individuality and creativity: a life stories perspective” on 16-17 May, the International Day for Sharing Life Stories. Some of Paul’s former students, former colleagues, co-authors/co-editors and co-researchers will participate in this event, and debate key questions for the comprehension of the relations between community, individuals and creativity on a life stories perspective.

  • Pilgrim Projects/ Patient Voices hosts story circle with storytellers in Cambridge

The organization will offer the opportunity for storytellers to meet and reflect on how telling the stories of their lives has affected the stories of their lives and their work, through sharing spoken stories, recorded stories, digital stories, music, food, drink and friendship. There will be storytellers who participated in the project, but others are invited. Please confirm presence via email.

  • United World Colleges at Oxford organizes Bon fire with Story Circle

There will happen a bon fire night, on the 16th of May, at Port Meadows, Oxford!
Three refugees –musicians- from West Papua Guinea were invited and the invitation was also open to the Guesthouse. This event will be free. Everyone in Oxford will be able to join. People will be invited to tell their life stories and bring objects to help themselves telling them.

The event will be accompanied by music and traditional coir.
